Getting There Safely

Whatever mode of transportation is your preferred way to get somewhere, you want to arrive at your destination without injuries. A few simple tips can help you do just that. Keep these in mind, and remember to read the road signs Washington to help guide you.

  1. By Car

Your automobile is a quick and convenient way to get from point A to B. Make sure it is up to date on routine maintenance including having a recent oil change and getting its tires rotated, if appropriate. Review your owner’s manual to find the appropriate schedule. Check the mirrors and windows for any obstructions. Leaves and snow that accumulate on your car can block your view and be dangerous, so clear them away before you start driving.

  1. By Bike

Taking your bicycle out is a great way to get to your destination while exercising at the same time. Wear appropriate gear including a helmet and brightly colored clothing. Check your tires for proper pressure before you head off on the road. Look at the weather forecast for the time you’ll be outdoors so you can pack the right equipment. If you’re riding on the street as opposed to a trail, remember rules of the road do still apply and can help reduce conflicts between bikes and other vehicles.

  1. By Foot

For a short trip, go for a walk. Depending on your location and the season, you can enjoy the sights and sounds of nature along the way. Wear comfortable shoes for the journey. If it’s a trip for pleasure, consider bringing some friends and using the time to catch up on a conversation.

Safety is a top priority when you’re out and about. Use some common sense practices in your everyday life to avoid accidents. It could save you a lot of hassle in the long run and you’ll be happy you took the care.
