Fourth Mac OS X browser test

I found today this great website about Mac (this Mac, Apple blogs rocks) and review about fourth Mac OS X browsers: Safari/Webkit 2.0.4, FireFox 1.5.0.4, Camino 1.0.2 and OmniWeb 5.5 Beta. If you don’t have Mac (i don’t) you can see how Firefox deal with this other three browsers from Mac.

In our last test, we tested the four major browsers on Mac OS X (Safari, FireFox, Camino, and OmniWeb). It has since become the most popular article on our site. Since then, there have been several improvements on almost all of the browsers, so we decided to test again. We received a lot of feedback from our readers which we took into account while writing this article.

All four of the browsers are Universal Binaries — good news for owners of Intel-based Macs. We tested the latest versions of the browsers as of this writing — Safari/Webkit 2.0.4 (the version that comes with OS X 10.4.7), FireFox 1.5.0.4, Camino 1.0.2, and OmniWeb 5.5 Beta (which can be downloaded from the Omni Forums.

And the conclusion:

Some people will undoubtedly complain that we are anti-Gecko, but that’s the way it goes. FireFox is a great browser — if you’re using Windows or Linux, that is. On a Mac, you have Safari, WebKit, and OmniWeb to choose from, which are not only more Mac-like, but also faster and more efficient. In the end, all of them have their strong points. Most of FireFox’s advocates use it because of the extensive support for extensions. Valid point, I guess.
