I’m not too enthusiastic about most of these. They’re good designs, but most are nothing special.
Due respect to the designers (my own layout is abysmal), but I think this probably reflects the general paucity of interesting design in the blogosphere. C’mon, surely the top 20 designs shouldn’t remind me of FrontPage 97..?
For me there should be at least 100 best blog designs list but we have only 20. Not too much good blog design out there.
What’s wrong with the desing of THIS site??? I can’t see the left margin using Firefox!!
Heading says “tBits” - can’t see left of that, and YES I’ve got my scrollbar all the way left. I do use 800×600 so my bum eyes can see the screen, but the web designer should take that into consideration…
duh
I’m having the same problem with IE6. Looks like the left margin is bleeding off the screen and i can’t get there!!
Beautiful! Is Cameron’s portfolio a blog though? I must have missed that one.
They’re all good, mostly web designers, so no surprise. I’d LOVE to see some kind of showing off of sites NOT belonging to designers though - THAT would be worth a bookmark!
About website, it works in 1024 and 1280 resolution with Firefox browser. When i look in my stats today IE takes 12% only. For resolutions 1280 - 35%, 1024 - 30%, 800×600 beyond first 10. Sorry but i can\’t gratify everyone and i am also sure that you have problems with this resolution on other websites.
Yee but Cameron’s portfolio also looks great and we added it to our list for that great look.
These blogs sure do look pretty, but not much is really new here.
Can we have some innovation in terms of blog layouts that actually increase the usability, rather than simply adding branding and graphics?
For example, the long tail archive: link
and the mullet blog layout : link
are two design concepts I\\\’ve been advocating that actually try to enhance a users ability to find content. Like them or hate them, at least they are an explicit attempt to make blogs easier to use. I\\\’d love to see more ideas along these lines!
Mullet blog layout presents very nice idea. I like it.
From this blogs Avalonstar breaks the rule of simple blog layouts.
Cheers and thanks for comments.

Nice collection. The sites are real cool!!!
I suggest a honorable mention for http://mad4milk.net/
When people talk about good blog design they almost always just focus on graphics. These are good designs, but not necessarily good blog designs (most are but see where I’m going here). I think one of the best designs is http://paulstamatiou.com/. It may not be the prettiest in terms of graphics but just look at how well it supports the content… that’s what blog design is about.
True, also great website.
Dude, my site totally got snubbed. Ah well - you’ve implied there will be a part two…
Well there will be…Part 3.
Part two is here: http://silentbits.com/?p=385
