Non Blog Style Themes Part 2

Ok, first take a look at Non Blog Style Themes Part One.

Over there I wrote about four non blog themes: Kiwi, Squible, Scattered and Hemingway.

So I’m going to tell you more about that last four themes.

Kiwi is now a new project. Kiwi 2.0 goes out along with Canvas (more on that by following the link).

Squible - I built my own page - SilentBits - on it. I still see some pages that use that skin. It was one of the first themes that supported tags, UTW and stuff like that really well.

Scattered - themes, mods are developed, at least that’s from my knowledge.

Hemingway - this theme also is alive. There are some (from my point of view: ugly) bright mods out there.
There are many great professional websites built on Hemingway. Designers only create graphics and put the site on the Hemingway engine. But there is also one great free mod of Hemingway, it is called Hemingway Pearled and you can see how it looks and works on: WordPress Poland.

New non blog themes

Now let’s take a look at the future. I want to remind you what “Non Blogâ€? is in my opinion. It’s themes for WordPress, that are more like CMS systems, than normal blog themes.

Also i want to show you this, from part one:

The positives of these themes, are that they are very unique and you can build a site that will not look like a typical WordPress theme. But it also have a big con. They are complicated, a lot of php codes, plugins, huge CSS so it will take longer loads. You need to have a good & fast hosting account. The most complicated and slowest is Kiwi.

Ok so this are new non blog themes that i found.

Js Theme for WordPress

Js Theme Bata1.0 is mostly K2, just with some minor design tweaks here and there.

Theme have options page in WordPress admin panel (options from K2 family themes).

Hemingway Pearled

Screenshot is from WordPress Poland website (show only as example), because the main theme website is down, the page is online but they have some problems and info about theme is down. Only the demo page with download link is up.

K2 Themes

K2 is a system in WordPress blog, it is normal theme but with many plugins, tweaks and all that. Try to Google more about K2.

So there is a K2 family with, one, two or even three column themes (see my website, it is also mod of K2 three column theme).

Scattered (theme from Part one of non blog themes) was also a K2 mod.

Best solution is to show you this website, it bring all the K2 Styles and Mods in one place (i mean the links).

If you use WordPress you must test this K2 themes. I always don’t like them, but when i try i just love the power it gives you.

Take a look at my blog, it is based on K2, really impressive engine in my opinion.

Wave

Wave is a Wordpress theme we have been working on for the past few weeks, in an attempt to bring about a better three column wordpress layout. With wave, you’ll notice things are simple, but it’s the minor things that count.

Bloxpress

Bloxpress2 is awesome system and it gives you great engine. It is also free to use with WordPress blog system.

Overview :

Bloxpress is an theme that acts as a plugin between your favourite theme and the Bloxpress system. Bloxpress enables you and your visitors to modify your website live by simply using drag and drop. It can be extended very easily and offers an powerful yet smart API for developers who like to built up on the core.

Also look at this great Bloxpress website, it is based on Hemingway and Wordpress. I don’t like this black theme but this implementation is just great. This show us that any WordPress unique theme can be tweak and use as website core.

Canvas

I don’t know if you are familiar with Kiwi theme for WordPress but that was the non blog style that i saw and started creates this blog (it was a big inspiration for me). You can see my mods of it here and here. Not entering details, Kiwi is one of the greatest free non blog themes for WordPress platform.

People from No One’s Listening authors of this theme, was coding a new project called Canvas.

Let me put it this way:

“Canvas brings the freedom to express yourself through design without needing to know CSS or PHP. With Canvas and Ink for Wordpress, you can easily rearrange, reconfigure, and colorize your entire blog without ever touching a line of code.”

See this as an example:

Canvas is the blog platform inside the wordpress, you can ease create a template that you like, just using drag&drop method, not coding with php or css. It is very easy to installed (just upload Canvas as a plugin and Kiwi as a theme to WordPress) and start setup.

Great news, much work from authors and i personally hope this project will grown with new themes, mods and plugins for it.

Citrus

Citrus theme, very nice dark, multicolor theme for WordPpress. Also looks and works like non blog theme.

Origami theme

Origami theme now for Wordpress 2.0 (with psd resources).

It is still in BETA version but i test it and works good for me.

5ThirtyOne v2

The original 5ThirtyOne 2006 Spring Reboot submission is now public as a [tag]WordPress theme[/tag].

Large fonts, integrated customizations for the Ultimate Tag Warrior plugin, modal window, and Script.aculo.us effects [integrated pull down shelf] all rolled into a single download package for Wordpress 1.5 & 2.0. Original PSDs are included for your own personalized customizations.

From me i must say this theme is really great. I was waiting for it and I would use it for my site but i just start a new version 3 with SG/Dark theme and i like it alot. But who knows, maybe someday i get bored with this theme and the version 4 will include the [tag]5ThirtyOne v2[/tag]. Will see…

SilentBits SG/Dark Mod

This is SG/Dark original design by the undersigned, redesign by SilentBits (footer change, graphic change, CSS and php code edit).
